This will be bad. BlackBoard already has a near lock on the 'learningware' market, and this patent will help enforce that. Not good.
Let me put it this way. Of all the BlackBoard administrators I've spoken with, none of them admit pleasure involved with that part of their jobs.

As a former WebCT admin and current Moodle admin, I agree. There is nothing at all good about this patent mess. At this point, I think the best we can hope for is for Blackboard to make the mistake of slapping a lawsuit on someone with deep enough pockets to fight back. The patent is blatantly invalid - there is prior art pre-dating their "invention" by close to a decade - so we need to hope Blackboard makes a mistake and sues the wrong organization before they've killed off too many competitors.Regardless, it's brazen and downright evil of them. Whatever happened to the official government line: "competition is good"?
Oh, those logos are great! I passed them on to our BB administrator here. He threatened to make them a part of his e-mail sig.
