TUT121: Virtualization of NetWare

I saw NetWare boot! This is the first time since BS-01!

That said, it wasn't a very encouraging session for NetWare fanatics. Key points:
  • There will almost definitely not be another point-rev of NetWare. No NW7, no NW6.6
  • SP6 may, or may not, be the OES2 release.
  • Service Packs past SP6 will be developed towards a virtualized environment, not a 'bare metal' environment.
  • Xen will include virtual storage drivers, and 3rd parties will continue to offer drivers as usual.
  • 3rd parties dropping NetWare driver support will most likely force NetWare into Xen in the future
  • Due to how Xen works, certain keyboard combinations we all know and love will have to change.
When the presenter said that there would be no further versions of NetWare the room was dead silent. Not even paper shuffles or coughing. That was a sign.
