Slow blogging

I found out at BrainShare that WWU has been accepted as a Novell Authorized Beta site for OES2 SP1. And that's what I've been doing for the better part of the past week. Due to the NDA required, I can't talk about it. So, not much bloggable stuff to bring forward.

We requested entry into the program in part because of what I learned at BrainShare 2007. Specifically, Novell doesn't test for our scales of users. Therefore, it is in our best interest to make sure that organizations like us are in the beta. We have the hardware to make a go of it right now (all those new ESX boxes are liberating some still-useful 3-5 year old servers), and I have the time. Unfortunately, the only 64-bit testing we'll be doing will be in VMWare, so the newest of the new code will have to be really tested by other people.

That's why I've been quiet.

Congrats! Sounds like you must be experiencing a mix of Christmas and "I've got a seeecret...."Out of curiosity, how do NDAs work with public institutions and open records laws? I'm sure there is a simple answer, but I can't think of one.

Yeah, my thought was that I was both a) happy for you that you get to test the newest, coolest toys, but b) sad that you can't talk about it.Well, write it up anyway and just don't post it until the product goes live and nullifies your NDA. You'll be one of the first with a review!

how do NDA's work with public institutions and open records laws?I don't rightly know. I do know that Public Records Requests (the WA version of an FOIA request) have the right to request any documentation I may have produce. The vast majority of that documentation is on a private Novell web forum, so I'll leave it up to the lawyers to figure that one out. Any notes I produce for myself are another story, and can be directly requested. I do know that there is at least one US based, state-funded higher ed in the program so we're not alone in this.Well, write it up anyway and just don't post it until the product goes live and nullifies your NDA. You'll be one of the first with a review!Believe me, I'm tempted. Right now I'm trying to figure out the best way to preserve my notes until either a public beta comes out or release. A Wiki-something sounds about right, but it only can let me and our other internal testers at it.
