End of an era

As some of you may know, the WWU dial-up modem Student and Faculty/Staff pools are being discontinued on Monday, June 29, 2009.

That's right. We're getting out of the modem business. We still had a couple regular users. If I remember right, the modem gear we had was bought with student-tech-fee money a LONG time ago and was beginning to fail. And why replace modem gear in this age? We're helping the few modem users onto alternate methods.

Like many universities, we were the sole ISP in town for many years. That changed when the Internet became more than just the playground of universities and college kids, but it was true for a while. The last vestige of that goes away on the 29th.
