Passing of an era

Today we're having the retirement party for one Bent Faber. He started work at this campus back in September of 1965 and grew up in occupied Denmark. That wasn't the begining of IT at WWU, that was 1962. But he is the oldest and longest serving IT employee we have. He has been elegible for retirement for a number of years now, and only decided that this was the year recently.

Over his long career he has been everything from the most knowledgable techie on campus, to the go-to person for student account complaints.

The retirement party was a veritible who's who of IT at Western over the last 40-odd years. Several people came out of retirement to attend. In one of the interesting twists of fate, the current Technical Services director was once a student employee working for the same department Bent was back in the '60's. That Tech Services director is now within a decade of retirement himself.

Thank you, Bent, for your long service.
